Wanted: One Good Match

Today Jaime came over to help me sift through all my matches. In my opinion, it was a bit of a daunting task. I had about 27 matches that I hadn't looked at and the list was growing daily. So, thank you, Lord, for Jaime! Together we went through each one and initiated communication to all of them. Well, okay, I think there were about 3 we closed out simply because they either a) didn't have a picture posted or b) proximally, we just weren't compatible. So, I'm sorry Joy, I had to do it. And you know what? I don't feel bad about it, either. Although it could be because Jaime was in charge of hitting the close out button!

I have 24 now. I'll keep you posted on how they go. My early favorites so far are Directionally challenged Clay, Teddy Bear Chris, Magazine Ben and last but not least Clever Smiley Face Stephen. Yes, I have to give them all names so that I can remember why I liked them. So here's to you 4. May you all respond so that we can get to know you better!

My Mom? Human???

Last weekend I learned something about my mom that I've never heard before. My mom has told me about past boyfriends and how she and my dad got engaged, etc. But my aunt told me a story that gave me a little bit of perspective. My Aunt Ruth Anne informed me this weekend that when my mom was dating my dad, she took a little break to come live with my aunt and uncle in Texas (she was in Missouri) for a summer. My mom has told me that she had lived with her brother for a summer or two here and there, but never told me why. Apparently, one particular summer, she went to Texas to think about marrying my dad. I guess my dad had told her he was called into the ministry and she needed time to figure out if she was called to be a pastor's wife. I love that! This might sound a bit weird, but it made my mom real to me. Now don't get me wrong, I love, love, LOVE my mom, but we don't often imagine our parents as children, or even people who have difficulty making these huge life decisions. So I guess, in a sense, my mom is a bit of a "kindred spirit." She has made big decisions. She might even understand what I'm going through sometimes! Hmm....Just a thought!

I Can't Believe I'm Doing It Again!

Internet dating! I've grown to have a love hate relationship with it. In the past 4 years I've told people at least 3 times that I'd NEVER do it again! Yet, here I am giving it another try. However, I'm just doing it for the sake of the quest! Truly! It's just a science project! ;) Anyway, Joy says I should respond to everyone. No closing anyone out for me! I don't know if I can do that, but I promised I'd try it! I guess I'll just have to manipulate it so that they close me out when I know it's not going to work! On a rather humorous note, they matched me to someone I work with. It was just a tad embarassing, but then the reality is, he's dating online as well! I recently had a conversation with an acquaintance who's dated on-line a LOT, and after telling him the story of the setback referenced in a previous post, his advice was to only send a couple of emails back and forth and just meet up. He said you don't want to become too emotionally attached through email because it's just different once you meet in person. I thought that was sound advice and will try it this time around! Although, does this mean I'm going to have to be the person to suggest a rendevouz?

Mole Mole Mole!

I have this huge zit about the size of Pike's Peak on my upper lip on the right side. It's actually in the perfect spot for a beauty mark. I was thinking, what if I purchased some brown eyeliner and colored it. I usually have at least one somewhere on my face. What if I did that to all of them. I'd have that mole that moves around everywhere. I wonder if anyone would notice!

Some Setbacks

Okay, it's day two and I've already had some setbacks. I was supposed to meet a guy I met online for drinks yesterday. I figured what a great way to begin my new adventure! He was supposed to call after he was done with a previous obligation. However, I never heard from him. I figured he got busy--no big deal nothing was really set in stone, we'll meet up another time. This afternoon I get an email from him telling me to give him a couple of weeks. WHAT THE HECK!!?? What is that supposed to mean? It was his idea in the first place! Just tell me the truth and say, "You know what, I've thought about meeting you and decided maybe it's not a good idea and I'm just going to move on." I'll let you know when I hear from him in a couple of weeks. Yeah, right! I'm not even going to mention the emotionally unavailable guy who calls me every once in a while to see what I'm up to! But, I still believe in my quest and I'm not going to give up. At least for another month. :)

The Quest

Alright, ya'll! I'm sure everyone older then 16 probably remembers the words "If you build it, they will come." from the movie Field of Dreams. That is the basis of this year long quest of mine! I'm willing to test and see. I'm a 30 year old who has never been married. Some might say I'm jaded when it comes to love and marriage. I would just say I'm a realist! However, I love marriage and what that commitment stands for and wonder if perhaps it's time I find someone and settle down! So, that said, I am going to begin my year long mission to find myself a lifelong best friend and husband! This blog will chronicle that endeavor! At the end, it might be fun to look back at this blog and retrace my steps. Or, I just might wonder what I was thinking in the first place!

The Merge

I created another blog that I really didn't want others to see, but the thing is I have so many usernames and passwords that I can't remember what that blog site was. So, I've decided to merge the two. It's a bit embarrassing, but it might make for an interesting read at times. You'll see what I mean once you read further! I figure what the heck--only a couple people read this blog anyway! ; ) Mmmhmmm... you know who you are!

A Little Love From Dove

I secretly made a resolution and today got some confirmation that perhaps I was on the right track. I began to think about my resolution when a friend told me not too long ago that I looked so happy in a picture I had laying out. My response to her was, "I was 24!" It is true that since then I've become a bit jaded (as my sister-in-law so eloquently pointed out the other day). Life happens (And yes, I'm thinking of another word). Anyway, I've decided I'm going to smile more! I feel better when I'm smiling. Today a co-worker gave me a Dove Chocolate and this is what the message said on the wrapper, "Sometimes one smile means more than a dozen roses." Thank you, Dove Chocolate, for your lovely, life altering gem. Happy smiling!

Winter Storm 2007

I love winter storms! It's the only days of the year when I don't feel guilty about being lazy! So, imagine my pleasant surprise when I walk out on the patio to let Gilbert out and there is ice and snow everywhere! I immediately turn the telly on and thereby discover school's canceled for the day! It's an extra bonus to watch all the giddy weather men and women out and about showing off the ice everwhere and seemingly excited about all the accidents caused by slick roads. Although, thinking back, I have to say my favorite ice storm of them all was "Ice Storm '96" in Waco. I remember hanging with roommates and friends, watching movies and T.V. and drinking lots of hot chocolate while all classes were canceled. That was the year when a dear friend ruined the movie Top Gun by asking if Goose had died not knowing I had never seen it before. Ahh, those were good times!

I need a camera!

Meet Jaime! This picture has no relevance whatsover. It's just that I thought that perhaps people who might look at this blog (Jodi) might want a few more pictures on this site. I'm 30 years old and I still don't have a camera! I just couldn't be bothered to get a new one after my last one was stolen 10 years ago! I rely on everyone else to take good pictures for me! Anyway, this isn't much of a post, but it counts! : )

Laughter

They say that laughter is the best medicine. I believe it. I really don't think there is anything better than laughter! I always tell people that if I get married, I must find somebody who loves to laugh and who is able to laugh at himself. Somebody asked me tonight when the last time I laughed until I cried was! It made me wonder! It's been awhile! What's wrong with me?? I believe the last time was during a student interview earlier in the school year. The only problem is I'm still not sure if I was laughing with the kid, or at the kid. Although, truth be known, I don't think this particular student even knew we were laughing he was so engrossed in his storytelling. So, in light of this question tonight, I'm now resolving to laugh more. Anyway, if anyone wants to share when there last time was I'd love to hear it.

It's been awhile!

Okay, I'm back! I'll try to do better at blogging. It's my new year's resolution--to blog more. Speaking of New Year's resolutions, we all have them. Every year I tell myself I'm going to exercise more, or eat less, or even read the Bible in a year. Unfortunately, I'm apparently not very disciplined because every year it's the same thing--by mid February I've stopped going to the gym everyday, or I've only made it to Leviticus and Luke and I'm done. Although, respectfully, have you ever been through the book of Leviticus? My word! So, this year I'm going to try again! Except I'm going to defy the one year Bible I have, and all the websites that tell you what to read to get through it in a year. This year, I'm doing it my own way! I don't know how many times I've read the four gospels and the Pentateuch before I quit my daily reading. This year, I'm doing it all backwards. I'm starting with the books of Revelation and Malachi. And, guess what? Two days and I'm done with Malachi. Well, there are only 4 chapters, but who's counting--I'm making progress! Today I read that if we tithe God will bless us! I see it in my life and promise it's true! Cheers, everyone and Happy New Year!
