Birthday Musings

Today's my birthday. It's a big one, too. Where has time gone? 40? What? How did that happen? The good news... I don't feel 40. The bad news... I'm flippin' 40. I know that the sting will go away after a day or two but seriously. Yikes!

In reflection, my last year in my 30's was a good one. I became a first time mom to the sweetest little boy I've ever known. I certainly count my blessings every day for little Wes.

When I think about raising Wes in my 40's I wonder if everyone will wonder why I had a kid so much later than normal. Some people are thinking about being empty  nester's during their 40's and I'm thinking about diapers and purees and dinosaur toys.

When it's all said and done and Wes is all grown up I know I won't regret a thing. I know there will be days when I am so very tired...but I am thankful for this sweet precious boy and look forward to growing along with him.

Even though I am an old(er) parent, these are a few things I will strive to do for Wes.

  • Love Jesus.
  • Love his dad.
  • Spend time with his dad
  • Love Wes
  • Spend time with Wes
  • Spend time as a family
  • Game night
  • Never use my tiredness to not spend time with him.
  • Forget my age so that I don't spend too much time thinking about it
  • Not be too intimidated by his friends younger moms.
  • Be adventurous
  • Laugh a lot
  • Not take life too seriously
  • Encourage learning
  • Encourage good hygeine (some boys can really smell!)
  • Encourage creativity and imagination
  • Eat well
  • Exercise
  • Take time for me
When I look at all these things I get excited thinking about all that lies ahead for me, my family and my future. It certainly looks bright and fun! Bring it on!
