I'm back from my lovely week in Boston! My purpose in going was to get Joy married! Because I'm on summer break, I went several days early so I could help out where I was needed! Let me just tell you, planning a wedding is tiring (nothing that anyone who reads my blog doesn't know--you've all planned your own weddings). Anyway, when we got to Joy's apartment the night I arrived, I asked her what the game plan was and she showed me a printed out schedule for the week. I was quite impressed with Joy's organizational skills! Anyway, the calendar was chalk full of activities that were sure to keep us busy until Saturday evening.
Day 1-Wednesday, Joy and I:
found gifts for the mothers
went to the dentist (well, Joy did)
went to the gym (we needed to get that last work-out in so both of us could fit in our dresses)
spent 7 hours (no joke) putting party favors together (taking of price tags when they are apparently super glued on is a B (which stands for bear)
Day 2-Thursday brought us:
David and Joy practice their dance
Finishing up the table placecards
The flowers-- were orignally going to be peach orchids, but turned into pink peonies because the wholesaler did not have peach orchids. However, the pink peonies were not opened and didn't look close to being open. So they spent the next 2 days in the shower where we periodically added hot water in order to shock them open. Imagine taking a shower with a bathtub full of flowers! Thankfully, with the help of the hot water and careful prodding with our fingers they were able to be opened. Jennifer and I did all the arrangements for the centerpieces and in my humble opinion looked amazing! Furthermore, the arrangements seemed to please Joy which was all that mattered!
The evening was topped off by a lovely dinner at The Fig.
Day 3-Friday brought us:
Joy's waxing appointment on Newberry street (Jenn and I managed to get a little trip to H&M where we both bought some clothes).
Lingerie shopping--for Joy, of course! Only Joy would have someone hit on her the day before her wedding!
Lunch with the bridesmaids
30 minutes late to the rehearsal--which was not good from the standpoint of an emotional bride
Rehearsal dinner--Chinese--yum!
Joy's pedicure
Finishing up the floral arrangements
Finishing up last minute touches on her dress (Joy added flowers to her train)
Day 4-Saturday--Wedding Day
The wedding was held on this beautiful estate. She couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day! The ceremony was beautiful! I honestly think that for the first time in my life I was able to see a glimpse of what being the bride of Christ means! As Joy (who looked absolutely stunning) walked down the aisle to the song "Before the Throne of God Above" I had this picture of Jesus waiting for his bride (us). I seriously had to hold my hands and bite my tongue in order not to lift my hands in worhsip or bursting out in song!
All in all, everything was great! The wedding was so beautiful and the reception provided great food and fun entertainment!
After the wedding we sent Joy and David on their way. Jennifer and I got back to Joy's place that night and decided we wanted to go out for awhile! So we walked to this place called O'Reilly's where we both got a drink! As I put my credit card on the counter to pay, the bartender/owner says "You might as well put that away since we don't take credit cards." Since neither Jenn and I have no cash on us, we are a bit worried. I have images of myself watching dishes in the back for the rest of the night. But then, I got my senses back and gave him my ID and told him we'd be back for it with cash. It was quite embarrassing, but we managed to find an ATM and go back and pay our tab!
Day 5-Sunday
Jenn left early that morning and I wasn't going to leave until Monday night. I was going to venture out and see Boston by myself. David and Joy stopped by before I left to drop off some tourist maps they had picked up at their hotel for me! So, with the map that David gave me I ventured out to find Boston Common. It was such a beautiful day that I decided to get lunch then go sit in the grass for awhile! Once I had sat for awhile I begin my little tour that is Freedom Trail. It's a 3 mile trail that hold so many historical buildings and places. I went to Paul Revere's house, the State Building--where the governor used to be housed, the place where the Boston Tea Party was planned, the Old North Church, the USS Constitution, and Bunker Hill. When I got back to Joy's I was so tired from all the walking! It was a nice day, however, and now I know I can be a tourist by myself!
Day 6-Monday
Joy came back from David's place and we went out to Boston to go shopping and have lunch! Over lunch I told Joy that if anyone knew she got married on Saturday, they would wonder what was wrong with that picture! (Joy and David weren't leaving for their honeymoon until Tuesday.) The day ended with Joy taking me to the airport where I was so ready to be home!
All in all, it was great trip! My goals were accomplished: Joy got married, I fit in the dress, and I got to see parts of Boston! I decided that I like Boston, but realized that while I love to travel, it's always nice to come back home!
